Mikuláš Peksa
born 1986 in Prague is a Czech biophysicist and politician of Česká pirátská strana. From 2017 to 2019 Peksa was a Member of the Czech House of Commons, since 2019 he is a Member of the Ninth European Parliament as part of the Green/EFA Group.
Youth and education
Mikuláš Peksa was born and grew up in Prague on 18 June 1986. After his school education at the Christian Doppler Grammar School, he studied biophysics at the Charles University in Prague. In the course of his studies he specialized in nuclear magnetic resonance, afterwards Peksa completed a post-graduate program in the framework of a cooperation between the Charles University and the University of Leipzig.
After his studies, Peksa worked as a researcher, Linux server administrator and programmer. He lives in Litoměřice.
Political involvement
Mikuláš Peksa joined the Party of Czech Pirates (Česká pirátská strana) in 2013. In April 2017, the Czech Pirates elected him to the party’s board of directors, and he was re-elected in January 2018. In addition to his membership in the Czech Pirate Party, Peksa is also a member of the Pirate Party of Germany.
In 2017 the pirates nominated Peksa as the party’s top candidate in the Ústí region for the elections to the Czech House of Commons, in which he won a mandate and entered the House of Commons.
In the 2019 European elections, the Pirate Party was able to gain a significant number of votes compared to the 2014 European elections: With 13.95 percent of the vote, the party won three of the 21 Czech mandates. Paksa joined the Greens/EFA group after lengthy negotiations. For his group, Peksa is a member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, as well as a substitute member of the Committee on Budgetary Control and the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs.
When he entered the European Parliament, he resigned his mandate in the Czech House of Commons.
